Left is my attempt at a snowy winter scene. Right is from a reference photo I took in Iceland

Trying some different compositions of some trees and buildings.

25 Jun, 2015 - Daily Moleskine – June 24 & June 25

Top: Went a bit rougher with my lines, to try and give the house a more rustic feel. I think the tree in the background gets lost in the scene, probably should have framed it differently.

Bottom: A quicker looser house by the water.

Started adding some man made structures to the sketches. Spent a little more time on these two, but still done fairly quickly. Only one more week of landscapes, then I’m not sure if I’ll pick another theme, or if I’ll go back to free form for a month.

21 Jun, 2015 - Daily Moleskine – June 20 & June 21

Didn’t have a lot of time this weekend, so did a couple very loose waterfall sketches.

19 Jun, 2015 - Daily Moleskine – June 18 & June 19

Tried to do a couple of drawings with some tighter lines, than the looser landscapes I’ve been doing. Picked a couple of scenes with water to try some reflections.

I like them both, but also don’t… I think the one on the left works, but having this birch truck section at the forefront seems weird.

The mountain one I kind of like too, but the reflection could be better.

Left: A scene from the book I’m learning from. A house on a hill.

Right: Tried to do a moonlit scene, with some cloud cover. Used a white gel pen to highlight the cloud edges, but it ended up mixing with the pencil and came out more grey. Don’t really love it.

15 Jun, 2015 - Daily Moleskine – June 14 & June 15

Moved on to try some cloud work. The one on the left isn’t very good. I didn’t get the values the way I wanted to. There was a similar image in the book I’m working from, and it looks way better.

The right picture I like more. The values are more evenly spread, and it looks more like a cloud.

More mountains. The top one I’m not entirely happy with. These landscapes are helping me work on dark and light values, and I think the top one needs more work.

I like the bottom one a lot more. The composition by itself is a little weak, but I like how the mountains and their features came out.

I missed a page when I drew these, so these were actually drawn on the 12th and 13th. Sticking with mountains for now. I really hate the one on the left. The size of the frame doesn’t compliment the image. And the big mountain in the front sucks.

The one on the right I like more. Used an “Epic” beer bottle as a source.
