“Two headed Boy Part 2” and a portrait of Anne Frank, inspiration from In The Aeroplane Over The Sea By Neutral Milk Hotel.

Left drawing references the direct lyric “Rings of flowers ’round your eyes and I’ll love you” from that song, but the continual theme of flowers / roses & eyes.

Since Anne Frank is such a large part of the this album, I felt she deserved her own page.

Both of the drawings’ eyes came out too dark, but I’m mostly pleased with how they turned out.

“Ghost” & “[untitled]” inspiration from In The Aeroplane over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.

Left is inspired by the lyric “With wings that ringed around a socket right between her spine”, think it turned out ok.

The right is inspired by the song a bit. Sounds like there are bagpipes in it, so I sketched out a bagpipe player.

“Communist Daughter” & “Oh Comely” inspiration from In The Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. Left is a little pornographic, but that was the point. Wanted to draw something combining the sexual themes in the song with “mother russia”. And I had to include something in the background referencing the “Semen stains the mountain tops” lyric.

The one on the right is inspired by the lyric “I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine.” Roughly sketched out the a Time Machine.

“Fool” & “Holland, 1945” inspiration from In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.

The left one, is inspired by the horn section in the song. The song is instrumental, so no lyrics to consider.

The right one is another more literal inspiration of the song title. I know this song is mainly about Anne Frank, but a lot of the album has themes of her, so I wanted to do a portrait at the end, rather than for one specific song.

“In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” & “Two-Headed Boy” inspiration from In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.

The drawing on the left is inspired by the lyric “…Can’t believe how strange it is to be anything at all”, which got me thinking about consciousness, and about how the brain named itself, and that led to trying to draw a brain.

The one on the right is a little literal for the name of the song. I read some interviews and song meaning write ups for this song, and how it seems to be about Siamese twins who are separated, and one dies. So I looked up some two headed circus photos and found one I like for a reference.

“King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1” & “King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 2 & 3” inspiration from In The Aeroplane over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.

Left one is a little obvious. Right one is based on the lyric “I will float until I learn how to swim, Inside my mother [in a / the] garbage bin”. Baby in a bottle.

Isaac Brock & Jeff Mangum. Finished off all the “The Moon & Antarctica” songs, ended with a portrait of the lead singer, Isaac Brock.

Moving on to “In The Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel, another one of my favourite albums that I feel is ripe with inspiration. Starting off with a portrait of the lead singer, Jeff Mangum, and then a page per day for each song on the album, and I’ll end off with a page of the album itself. That will leave me with one day left in August. Not sure what I’ll do then.

“Life Like Weeds” & “What People Are Made Of” inspiration from The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse

There’s a lyric in “Life Like Weeds” that goes “And we know that our hearts are just made out of strings to be pulled, strings to be pulled”. That was the inspiration to the one of the left.

The one on the right is a little weird. Don’t know what the inspiration was for that exactly, just come out while listening to the song.

“I Came as a Rat” & “Lives” inspiration. From The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse.

The subtitle of “I Came as a Rat” is “Long walk off a short dock”, which was the inspiration of the top drawing. Her face is quite “structured”. Hard to get that right at such a small scale. I missed the grain on the last dock board, and one of the posts is a little off, but I like it.

“Lives” has a great string piece to it. I think it’s a violin. So that was the inspiration for the bottom drawing.

“Wild Pack of Family Dogs” & “Paper Thin Walls” inspiration from The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse.

Left is a drawing of my dog, Remi. He’s a four month old French Bulldog. Haven’t done one of him yet, and it sort of fit the title of the song :).

Right turned out ok. Had a lot of problems with the hands / fingers holding the binoculars. And with the legs of the figure in the building. Originally had a plant near the bottom to fill up some of the space, but took it out. Maybe should have kept it.
