Two random portraits from google images. They both look ok I think, the guy on the left had a very dark complexion that doesn’t come through here because I didn’t darken enough, but I like it. The teeth on the woman are terrible again. So much trouble with teeth.

Two of my favourite authors from when I was a wee lad. Shel Siverstein, and Robert Munsch. Shel has such a unique appearance with dense dark beard and intense features, tried a scaled-down, less realistic drawing for him.

Tried a more cartoon-ish version for Robert Munsch. It doesn’t super look like him, but I like the way it came out anyway.

A couple of Astronomers. Phil Plait from Bad Astronomy. Came out pretty good, except the teeth. I really have a hard time with teeth. The other is Dr. Pamela Gay from Astronomy Cast, my current favourite podcast. Her head came out a bit small, and I tried something different with the hair.

I share a birthday with Walt Disney (Dec 5th), so I tried to do a portrait of him, in his style. Looks ok, but not super clean on the lines. Also drew Mario Lemieux, my favourite hockey player of all time.

Dave Chappelle and Brent Spiner as Data from Star Trek. Drawing these two was interesting, it took a while to get the mouths and lips correct. When they were off, it made the whole image off, but then a few tiny corrections made the whole face look more realistic. Fun to do some more pencil work.

Moved on to a new theme for December: Portraits! Picked Bill Murray and Robyn for the first two. I think Robyn turned out best. The angle of her head is a bit tilted up, so you see more chin, and up her nose. I had some beginning problems with her nostrils, but I think it looks good now :)

Attempted a drawing of Penrose Stairs. Came out a little wonky. The trick is that the shape of each of the step tops should be the same. Mine were a bit off, which throws the perspective off a bit. A fun drawing to try though.

Drew my perspective from the plane ride home. Didn’t sketch out in pencil first, just drew with the pen. Not great.

Was in LA for Thanksgiving with family. They have a 2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. Beautiful dog. Not such a great drawing though. Didn’t spend a lot of time on it, and didn’t have a good reference (the dog didn’t like standing still).

Drew the Taj Mahal. Love the symmetry of it. Lots of great elements to pick out and draw.
